International Workshop on LTE Evolution,
Dresden, June 18th 2009
The International Workshop on LTE Evolution
took place on June 18th 2009 alongside IEEE ICC in Dresden, with
over 70 participants. 16 papers were presented, less than 50% of the
submitted papers which were mostly of excellent quality. Workshop
participants came from Germany, UK, China, USA, Finland, Sweden,
Danmark, Austria and other countries.
The lively discussion at the workshop were centred around
theoretical analysis, performance prediction, technical feasibility
analysis, business models and very concrete technical concepts for
the further evolution of LTE beyond Release 8. Focus topics were
cooperative multipoint (COMP) for uplink and downlink, and relaying.
The workshop programme also included
life field demos of uplink and downlink COMP within the EASY-C LTE-Advanced
testbed in Dresden.
The prospects of the mid and long term future of warless was
discussed at a panel discussion. The participants were Reinaldo
Valenzuela (Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs, Director Wireless Research),
Dirk Gerstenberger (Ericsson and 3GPP RAN#1 Chairman), Klaus-Juergen
Krath (T-Mobile, Senior Vice President Radio Networks Engineering &
Quality), and Gerhard Fettweis (Vodafone Chair Technische
Universitaet Dresden). The discussion was moderated by Ralf Irmer
(Vodafone, Advanced Radio and Trials, Group R&D)
This workshop was organized by members of the EASY-C project. The
workshop topics were aligned to the work programme of EASY-C and
this was a good opportunity to exchange views between leading
experts from various research institutions and companies from all
over the world.
The workshop papers are available on IEEE explore.
