EASY-C at the IEEE ICC'09
At the IEEE International Conference on Communications (IEEE ICC'09), EASY-C was represented through a large number of exhibition booths.
In total, 9 out of 16 project partners had an own booth, and 4 live demonstrations on innovative LTE-Advanced concepts were performed, connected to the following topics:
- Remote radio head concepts. Alcatel-Lucent demonstrated an LTE-Advanced transmission and detection in the uplink, where a base station was equipped with a remote radio head,
such that the gain of macro diversity could be demonstrated.
- Collaborative MIMO. The Deutsche Telekom und the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut demonstrated collaborative MIMO in the downlink,
where two base stations performed precoding in such a way that inter-cell interference was minimized.
- Uplink joint detection. The TU Dresden demonstrated a transmission of two mobile terminals on the same
physical resource to two base stations located in the EASY-C testbed in downtown Dresden. The base stations cooperated in jointly detecting and decoding the signals, and a massive gain over conventional (non-cooperative) detection could be shown.
- Downlink joint transmission. The TU Dresden demonstrated the worldwide first joint and coherent transmission from two cooperating base stations to two terminals on the same resource.
It could be shown, that this kind of precoding allows an almost complete avoidance of inter-cell interference.
Also the International Workshop on LTE Evolution, which was organized by EASY-C project partners, was a large success.
The workshop had the largest number of participants of all workshops held at the IEEE ICC 2009.
